Ra Gossage is a self-taught painter of Ngāti Wai and Ngāti Ruanui descent. Gossage creates contemporary kowhaiwhai paintings and panels. These finely detailed paintings are created by entirely hand, and are a reflection of her heritage, culture and environment. Ra’s interest in the arts began in childhood, where she observed and assisted her father, Peter Gossage, making kowhaiwhai panels
In Ngā Rangi i Runga | The Heavens Above, Gossage presented a new collection of her kowhaiwhai paintings. Gossage has been developing her practice for over 15 years - her works reflect her learnings and her love of kowhaiwhai. Gossage ultimately aims to promote the beauty and importance of this treasured Māori art form through her practice.
