THE LAST WORD
On view: Tues 2 April - Sat 27 April
"The last word" delves into the complex interplay of human behaviour, at its core, the pursuit of having the last word can stem from various psychological motives, including the desire for control, validation, dominance, or the need to assert and protect one's identity or ego.
When questions are challenged, new perspectives, objections, and interpretations continually emerge, and diplomacy breaks down entirely, and parties resort to armed conflict to achieve their objectives to defend or avenge their interests, the declaration of war as the final recourse turn us all to fools and madmen as it gives us a false sense of closure or clarity, instead, we continue to fuel the endless cycle of failed resolutions and tragic costs of more human lives. War as the last word comes with significant human and societal costs, efforts to prevent or mitigate conflict through peaceful means are more often a figment of our imagination and seldom reflect in reality. - Artist statement from Lang Ea.
