Roofing, Wire, and Tin featured artwork from three artists and friends who work together in order to create art that explores a wide range of technical and symbolic interests. This diverse group exhibition was composed of individual artworks from each artist and various combinations of works that they have created together.
Jeff Thomson has been working as a full-time professional artist since 1989. Jeff works mainly in sculpture, creating works out of mediums that are traditionally excluded from artistic production, such as metal and wire. Jeff often creates artworks designed for external display on a large scale, these works interact with the environment and landscape in a playful and spontaneous way. His art is held in national and international collections, including Te Papa Tongarewa, Christchurch Public Art Gallery, Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne, Australia, TarraWarra Museum of Art in Victoria, Australia and Vogtland Museum in Plauen, Germany.
Bev Goodwin is a longstanding multi-media artist. She trained in Florence and spent many years working in Italy before relocating back to New Zealand, where she has lived and worked for over thirty years. Bev has a particular interest in the reuse of materials. She often repurposes discarded objects in her artworks and wishes to find beauty in the everyday. Bev and Jeff have worked together on a number of projects and share a love of wire as a medium for artist creation. Her artworks are held in a range of collections throughout the globe, including New Zealand, Australia, China, the US, England, France, and Italy.
Colin Harris uses art as a therapeutic outlet and lifeline, providing inspiration and solace. Harris has a mental illness, his artworks offer him a creative outlet. Harris works mainly in drawing and painting, creating innovative and unique works that often feature repetition. As longtime friends, Colin Harris and Jeff Thomson often work together to create artworks that utilise the diverse mediums of sculpture, painting and drawing.
