Conversations with the Artist | Ra Gossage

Join us at Northart to hear about the artistic practice of Ra Gossage on Sunday 20 June, 1pm - 2pm.

Ra Gossage is a self-taught painter of Ngāti Wai and Ngāti Ruanui descent. Gossage creates contemporary kowhaiwhai paintings and panels. These finely detailed paintings are created by entirely hand, a reflection of her heritage, culture and environment. Ra’s interest in the arts began in childhood, where she observed and assisted her father, Peter Gossage, making kowhaiwhai panels.

In Ngā Rangi i Runga / The Heavens Above Gossage presents a new collection of her kowhaiwhai paintings. Gossage has been developing her practice for over 15 years; her work reflects her learning during this time and her love for kowhaiwhai.

Ultimately, Gossage aims to promote the beauty and importance of this treasured Maori art form through her practice.
