Matariki at NORTHART

Connecting Community and Creating Art for MATARIKI 2024 With grateful thanks to  Kaipātiki Local Board and Kāipatiki Community Facilities Trust 

Festivities, Exhibitions Art-making Activities and Workshops ALL ARE WELCOME TO THESE FREE ACTIVITIES AND FESTIVITIES 

The creative process inspires contemplation and Northart encourages thoughts around kaitiakitanga for Matariki programming. Northart is offering an intense period of interactive art-making with a combination workshops and drop-in art sessions along with celebration of community. 

Exhibitions:  

EAST GALLERY: Messini Palace - Celebrated Ngāti Apakura, Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Pakeha  artist Messini Palace palces traditional Māori carvings into a contemporary context using casting materials such as resin 

SOUTH GALLERY A swansong exhibition celebrating both this gallery space and our local environment. Works inspired by native flora and fauna to show in the South Gallery. The last opportunity for members to exhibit in the current building before Northart moves to temporary premises in 2025 and then to a dedicated gallery in the new Northcote community hub. 

MATARIKI AT NORTHART

We are thrilled to be bringing a series of immersive Matariki events planned for June and July, featuring a rich array of interactive art-making sessions.

Dive into creative exploration with workshops including "E te rere to haki - Fly Your Flag" , paper weaving, found objects sculpture, Tukutuku and Kowhaiwhai design sessions, "Hammer Flower" art, Porotiti spinning disc crafting, making your own neck pendant, an introduction to Ngatu, and card making.
